The Lying Game #2 Never Have I Ever Sara Shepard Books

This is book 2 in a series. I bought the first book without paying attention to the fact that it was one book in a series, of six books no less! Unhappy with myself for not paying attention, I found the story too addicting to just let go. So, in book two, we continue.

And at the end of book two, we still don’t know who killed Sutter. I am resigned to buying all books in the series, but I’ll do so as I read them. In this book, we examine several suspects. Emma, and the ghostly Sutton, examine and reflect on the motives of all her friends, and even her sister Laurel. Suspects are vetted, trusted, and suspected again. The half paranormal pair examine jealous rivals. All of this sleuth work takes place with a background of unusual, dangerous, and cruel pranks that all characters seem to feel comfortable playing on each other, friend and foe alike.

And then, not a spoiler, at the end of book two yet another mysterious character appears. This is enjoyable reading, good writing, and I feel motivating for readers working with English as a second language.

On to book three.

The Lying Game #2 Never Have I Ever Sara Shepard Books Reviews

Much like the first, Never Have I Ever (yes, named after the popular sleepover game!)is told from the perspective of Sutton Mercer. Or, the ghost of Sutton Mercer, as she follows around the long-lost identical twin sister Emma who she never knew she had.

What I liked Okay, first of all, Sara Shepard's books are like...catnip for me. I'm addicted to them. 1) The characters (save for Emma who walks around wondering if these people can actually be real) are all unapologetically shallow and mean, and I love them for it. How can you not appreciate an author who creates characters like that and just expects her readers to like them? 2) The mystery. Before the series is over, I have a feeling every single person will be suspected of Sutton's murder. This is similar to Pretty Little Liars in which at one point everyone has been suspected of being "A." But instead of clearing someone with a simple alibi, in NHIE, Miz Shepard has taken it to the very last second to prove someone's innocence or guilt. 3) Ethan and Emma - FINALLY!

What I didn't like 1) It can get hard at some points to differentiate between Ghost Sutton and Real Emma being Live Sutton. There were a couple of times I'd have to re-read a paragraph or two to make sure I knew who it was that was speaking. 2) Come on, how can no one realize that she's not Sutton? I mean, seriously? Not even any comments about her acting strange!

Overall thoughts Light and quick read, I finished it in a matter of hours. It's definitely fun and interesting, sparking some lols, some eye-rolls, and a few gasps from me while I was reading. I was really excited about the way it ended, and can't wait for the next book (Two Truths and a Lie) to come out (Feb. 2012)!
I just finished reading Never Have I Ever, and I enjoyed this installment of The Lying Game series, but sadly, not as much as the first. The urgency to read this book was largely in wanting to know who the killer was and what happens with Emma in the aftermath. I thought it was a little disappointing that this book doesn't reveal either. However, who hasn't felt that way about a book series? So it's not a flaw in the story itself.

Positives I felt so emotionally wrapped up in Emma's life and confusion that I never fully trusted a single character throughout the entire story. I love that in a book. That connection with a character is rare. I usually have a pretty clear idea of where a book is leading to, but I found the ending shocking. The last scene of this book definitely leaves me excited to start the next in the series as soon as possible. )

Negatives I don't trust Ethan. Which is a bummer. I always enjoy a romantic development between two characters, and I found him to be too sneaky and suspicious to connect to. Thankfully the mystery of Sutton's murder, and the 'taking the place of your dead twin' plot line more than make up for it.

In conclusion, I recommend this series, but suggest you make it a point to read the first installment, and get comfortable waiting, because if Sara Shepard's series Pretty Little Liars is in any indication, it's going to be awhile. ;)
I am going to just be quick and to the bottom line, enough has been said about this book.

I am enjoying this book because it is similar to Pretty Little Liars. This book is written better than the first and is an improvement from the Lying Game book. The Author starts to gain flow with her writing about half way though the 2nd book. You could actually start this series with the 2nd book in my opinion, although i am glad i read the first one.

I agree, that this book has a few situations that are a bit flawed, and a somewhat unrealistic. Really, not too far off from the situations in PPL. I like this series though, entertaining enough, a great, easy summer read. The ending was exciting and the 3rd book is going well so far. If you have read the 2nd book i would suggest finishing the series.

I would gladly read more from this Author; but it seems like, all of Sara Shepard's work happens to be a few versions of "mean girl" stories each with the same concept. I just feel like she wrote the same story a few different ways. She even uses the same names of characters that were in previous books. This is a fun author to read overall, it lacks substance and creativity. I will be on the look out for a new book with an entirely different plot. I would like to see what Ms. Shepard can come up with, but i am not expecting her to be an author that i will purchase countless novels from. So Sara, if you are reading this PLEASE give us fans something new and totally different!
